The Gambia has made significant strides in expanding electricity access, putting the nation on track to achieving universal access to electricity by the end of 2026, well ahead of the 2030 global target.
Commissioning the electricity access project in Panchang Village, Central River Region- North, marks a significant development in The Gambia’s quest for universal access to electricity.
In fulfilment of his campaign promise in 2021, seven hundred and nineteen (719) new communities across The Gambia now have access to affordable electricity supply in 2026. These include the one hundred and fifty-seven (157) communities in the Central River Region.
In his remarks, President Adama Barrow described the impact of delivering electricity to rural communities.
“Electricity changes lives in very practical ways, and this is what my government is doing in The Gambia. It means our students can now study at night in safe, well-lit homes, improve their learning outcomes, and compete with their peers.”
With universal access to electricity, women can now enjoy access to modern equipment, process food more efficiently, and expand the small businesses that support their families.” The President stressed.
Commissioning the electricity project at Panchang further signifies that farmers, traders, and artisans can increase productivity, preserve their goods, and earn better incomes. Through these openings, this development will widen the doors to a better future for all Gambians.
The occasion marked a new era of progress and partnership for the people of Panchang and The Gambia, the President declared.
