On 12 February 2026, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Jerreh Sanyang, alongside National Security Adviser, Abubakarr Suleiman Jeng; the Director General of Immigration, Ebrima Mboob; Defence and Security Chiefs, senior government officials, and partners, attended the maiden passing-out ceremony of the 100 Border Patrol Unit (BPU) Officers. The ceremony followed the completion of a three-month intensive training at the Gambia Armed Forces Training School in Fajara.
Presiding over the ceremony, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, Jerreh Sanyang, underscored the strategic importance of the Border Patrol Unit, and its interplay with the Government’s commitment under the “YIRIWA” Agenda and the Security Sector Reform (SSR) Assessment Report and the National Security Policy.
In his remarks, Director General Ebrima Mboob commended the officers for their resilience and steadfast dedication throughout the training period. He emphasized that the creation of the Unit forms a critical component of the Department’s Reform Agenda and demonstrates the his leadership’s unwavering commitment to enhancing border management and safeguarding national security.
Assistant Inspector General of Police, Pateh Jallow, representing the Inspector General of Police, echoed DG Mboob’s resolution, stressing the relevance of inter-agency collaboration in combating irregular migration and curbing transnational organized crime.
The Commandant of the Gambia Armed Forces Training School, Major Abdoulie Secka, congratulated the graduates and highlighted the comprehensive courses undertaken during the training. He noted that these competencies are essential to strengthening the officers’ operational effectiveness and enhancing national border management capacity.
With a colorful display of skills, competencies and operational preparedness, the passing-out ceremony of these offices etched a historical legacy in GID’s reform agenda, signaling the Department’s resolve to duty and commitment to safeguarding national integrity, security and sovereignty.
