Former Senegalese President Macky Sall has reportedly entered the race for the position of United Nations Secretary-General.
According to media sources, his candidacy file was submitted by the current African Union Chairperson, Évariste Ndayishimiye. However, reports indicate that Sall’s bid does not yet have formal backing from the Senegalese government — an unusual development, as candidates for the UN’s top job are typically endorsed by their home countries.
If confirmed, Sall would join the list of potential African contenders to lead the United Nations, a position currently held by António Guterres.
So far, Senegalese authorities have not issued an official statement on the matter, leaving observers across the continent awaiting further clarification.
