Emphatic action has been taken against the now-detained artist, Ouzin Keïta, of Senegalese origin, as well as 13 others, including a Gambian national, in Dakar. The police operation was initiated in the posh Almadies area and resulted in the apprehension of the suspects.
Keïta, known for his artistic talents, was reportedly caught in an apartment with the other individuals during a targeted drug investigation. However, the scope of the inquiry expanded to include allegations of various illegal activities such as drug use, procuring, fraud, blackmail, extortion, and acts deemed unlawful under Senegalese law, including the transmission of HIV.
Upon Keïta’s disclosure of his HIV status, authorities asked the suspects to voluntarily undergo screenings, while also searching for an individual named “Ass,” described by Keïta as his “spiritual son.” As the investigations continue, the 14 individuals, including Keïta, remain in police custody at the Division des Investigations Criminelles (DIC).
Further steps, such as examining the suspects’ mobile phones and requesting medical examinations, may be taken by the authorities as part of the inquiry. These arrests reflect the government’s determined efforts to dismantle suspected networks that promote homosexuality in the country.
