The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, Hon. Fatou Kinteh, alongside
Cabinet colleagues, Senior Government officials, lawmakers and Civil Society members held their first briefing session ahead of the official opening of the 70th Session of International Women’s Day at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
In her maiden statement, Hon. Kinteh reminded delegates of the singular importance The Gambia Government attaches to women’s rights, and urged them to participate fully, and give their best throughout the deliberations. Madam Kinteh echoed this year’s theme: “Access to Justice for Women”, which highlights the recognition that all too often, women have been denied access to Justice and the global desire to fix this centuries old anomaly.
She also, urged participants to work towards the preparation of the first draft report before ever returning to The Gambia.
The meeting, chaired by The Gambia’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. Lamin Dibba specifically reminded delegates of the significance of women’s global contributions to national economies, law, justice, family life and the mounding of children and education. Minister Kinteh familiarized delegates with
the main modalities of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).
Hon. Fatou Kinteh is accompanied by colleagues Abdoulie Sanyang and Dawda Jallow of Interior and Justice respectively as well as Secretary to Cabinet, Mr. Alieu Njie, Parliamentarians, The Government Spokesperson, Mr. Ebrima G. Sankareh and Foreign Affairs PS, Ambassador Lang Yabo.
