The North Bank Region (NBR) Border Patrol Unit, in collaboration with personnel of the Barra Immigration Post, has intercepted fourteen (14) would-be migrants during an intelligence-led operation conducted in Bakalar Village, Upper Nuimi District.
The operation, carried out in the late hours of Friday, 13th March 2026, led to the interception of fourteen (14) foreign nationals, including nine (9) females, one of whom is pregnant, and two (2) minors. The migrants were found harboured in the compound of a landlord identified as Lamin Jammeh.
Preliminary findings indicate that the migrants were being accommodated without notification to the village Alkalo, contrary to the provisions of the Registration of Aliens Act of 1977.
The landlord and the suspected would-be irregular migrants were subsequently escorted to the Barra Immigration Post for preliminary investigations, pending further procedures, including possible transfer to the Tanji Migration Centre.
The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) remains resolute in its efforts to dismantle migrant smuggling networks while safeguarding human dignity and upholding the rule of law.
