Acting on intelligence received in the early hours of Thursday, the Border Patrol Unit (BPU) of the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) successfully disrupted a clandestine migrant smuggling movement in Brikama, today, 19th March 2026, at Brikama Nyambai at around 7:00hrs.
The individuals involved were housed in an apartment known as โSonko Holidayโ, located around the Mbalit Junction of Brikama Nyambai. According to preliminary findings, the suspected organisers had been clandestinely moving recruits in batches to the location as part of an irregular migration journey.
During the operation, thirty-four (34) suspected would-be migrants, among them 3 Gambians, 4 Senegalese, 21 Malians, and 6 Guineans, with 4 females and 1 minor, were intercepted. They have been transported to the Tanji Migration Management Centre for processing and further investigation.
The GID reiterates its zero-tolerance stance against migrant smuggling operations, a menace that continues to expose human lives to grave risks and undermine the basic fabric of human livelihood.
We equally underscore the critical role of community support, a mark of vigilance and patriotism, in strengthening proactive operations to combat transnational organised crime.
