His Excellency President Adama Barrow today commissioned the ‘Barra’, a brand new green ferry, marking a significant milestone in the country’s transportation sector. The vessel can carry over 800 commuters, 4 trucks and 20 vehicles, and is designed to provide reliable river transport for the growing population.
At the commissioning ceremony, President Barrow emphasised the need for sustainable operational frameworks to support this massive investment, urging the Ferry Services to prioritise cost minimisation, maintenance and customer service. Speakers praised the President’s visionary leadership in driving infrastructure development and promoting sustainable mobility in The Gambia.
The initiative is expected to boost socio-economic growth, reduce congestion and improve connectivity within vibrant Banjul-Barra maritime corridor.
