The Gambia Action Party (GAP) has taken note of the recent address delivered by His Excellency, Adama Barrow, at the National Assembly.
While we commend and appreciate the government’s efforts in advancing infrastructure particularly in the areas of road construction and electricity expansion we believe it is important, in the spirit of transparency and accountability, to present a balanced perspective on the state of the nation.
GAP is concerned that key aspects of the President’s statement do not fully reflect the realities facing ordinary Gambians. Issues of national security, employment, and the rising national debt require more candid acknowledgment and decisive action.
Border security remains fragile, unemployment, especially among the youth, continues to rise, and many families are struggling with the increasing cost of living.
Furthermore, critical sectors such as education and healthcare are still lagging behind. Access to quality education remains uneven, and our healthcare system continues to face serious challenges in capacity, staffing, and service delivery.
As a nation, The Gambia must prioritize self-sufficiency, particularly in food production. A country that cannot feed itself remains vulnerable, regardless of progress made in infrastructure.
We therefore urge His Excellency to focus more on policies that directly improve the lives of Gambians policies that create jobs, strengthen national security, improve public services, and ease the economic burden on citizens.
GAP also calls on the President to refrain from indirect attacks on the opposition. A healthy democracy thrives on mutual respect, constructive dialogue, and inclusive governance. The opposition is not an enemy of the state, but a vital partner in national development and accountability.
The Gambia deserves leadership that unites, listens, and delivers for all.
