Proceedings at the High Court of Banjul have advanced as Justice Ebrima Jaiteh completed reading the testimonies of state witnesses and moved on to those presented by the defence.
The defence case includes testimonies from three senior government officials: Ebrima G Sankareh, former Deputy Inspector General of Police Momodou Sowe, and Security Adviser Abubacarr Sulayman Jeng. All had earlier addressed the public following the shooting incident.
Another key defence witness, Kathleen McGee, testified that she knew the first accused, Ousainou Bojang, as a security guard at her property in Brufut. She told the court she was in continuous communication with him on the night of 12 September 2023, from 8:18 pm to after midnight.
McGee provided an alibi, stating it would have been impossible for Bojang to be involved in the shooting, as they were exchanging voice messages throughout the period. WhatsApp communication records were submitted as exhibits to support her claim.
She also described Bojang as a quiet and hardworking individual, adding that he was not streetwise and had no links to the MFDC rebel group.
The court continues to review the evidence as proceedings move toward a final judgment.
