President Adama Barrow has rejected the High Court’s acquittal of Ousainou Bojang and his sister, and confirmed that the government will file an appeal in connection with the Sukuta-Jabang Police Intervention Unit (PIU) shooting case.
Speaking at a meeting in Somita, Barrow said his government maintains that Bojang is responsible for the killing of the officers, despite the ruling delivered by Justice Jaiteh.
“We suspected he killed the officers, and we believe he is the one who killed them,” the president said.
Barrow also responded to remarks made by Ousainu Darboe following the court decision. He criticised Darboe’s reaction to the ruling, stating that he has previously rejected court decisions he considered unfavourable but has now accepted this outcome.
The president further alleged that public perceptions linking Darboe to the case may have some basis, stating that “his hands are not clean” in the matter.
The developments follow heightened public and political reactions after the acquittal of the Bojang siblings, with the government now moving to challenge the court’s decision through the appeals process.
