A canoe carrying 169 migrants arrived Tuesday morning at the port of La Estaca in El Hierro after a seven-day journey from Barra.
According to emergency services, the group, mostly men of sub-Saharan origin, included 15 women and 7 minors. They were attended to at the port by medical and humanitarian teams, including the Red Cross, with no hospital transfers required.
Authorities said the migrants came from several countries, including The Gambia, Senegal, Mali, Guinea-Conakry, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria.
The vessel reportedly reached the island under its own power, highlighting the continued risks associated with irregular migration along the Atlantic route.
