President Adama Barrow has officially inaugurated The Gambia’s first National Food and Drug Quality Control Laboratory in Brusubi, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen public health, food safety, and pharmaceutical regulation.
The state-of-the-art facility is expected to enhance the capacity of national authorities to test, monitor, and ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of food products, medicines, and other regulated substances. The laboratory will play a critical role in safeguarding public health, combating counterfeit and substandard products, and supporting evidence-based regulatory decisions.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, President Barrow described the project as a major achievement in the government’s commitment to improving healthcare standards and protecting consumers. He emphasized that the facility would contribute to strengthening the national regulatory framework and advancing The Gambia’s broader development agenda.
The establishment of the laboratory is also expected to boost public confidence in locally available food and pharmaceutical products while facilitating compliance with regional and international quality standards.
