The Gambia Women’s National team lost 2-0 to Namibia in the second and final leg of the CAF TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers in Morocco
The Gambia came into the game seeking to overturn a 3-2 deficit from the first leg and could have levelled the scores when Catherine Jatta headed in Fatou Kanteh’s cross in the opening minutes of the first half, but been controversially ruled out for off-side. The Gambia continued to put pressure on the Namibian defense with both Fatou Kanteh and Mbassey Darboe pilling up the pressure but none could hit the back of the net.
Namibia scored twice in the first half to put the result beyond the Queen Scorpions, who continued to fight in the second half, but all efforts proved futile.
Namibia won 5-2 on aggregate to advance into the final round of the qualifiers where they’ll meet the winner of the tie between Ghana and Rwanda.
