Migrant activist Ebrima Drammeh, while addressing the Ebrima Migrant Situation WhatsApp group yesterday confirmed the death of the missing migrant boat which left the Gambia on the 14th of October 2023.

Ebrima Dramneh announced, “After conducting an extensive month-long investigation into the November 14th and 19th migrant boats that departed from the Gambia, our findings have brought us to a distressing conclusion. It is with great sadness that I inform you, based on our thorough investigations conducted in both Africa and Europe, that we have learned that the boat that departed on October 14th has tragically capsized in the waters between Senegal and Mauritania. Regrettably, there are no survivors, and all individuals on board have lost their lives.”

This devastating news has sent shockwaves throughout the Gambian community, both within the Gambia and abroad. Just hours ago, I received heartbreaking news from my flatmate, who relayed that over 30 young individuals had perished in the capsized boat from their village kartong. Additionally, it has been reported that more than 40 individuals from a single town in the Gambia have also lost their lives.

The boat was believed to be carrying over 150 passengers, including women and children, on their journey from the Gambia to Spain

May all the departed souls rest in perfect peace!
