Bassirou Diomaye Faye, 2024 presidential candidate, is currently in prison. The European Union observation mission deployed in Senegal wishes to meet him before the start of the electoral campaign.
“Our objective is to see all the candidates who have been validated by the constitutional council. Whatever their situation. So we hope to be able to meet Mr. Diomaye Faye,” declared Malin Björk.
Facing the press this Wednesday, the leader of the European Union observers deployed in Senegal for the presidential election next February, indicates that they are taking the necessary steps to see the “patriots” candidate.
She explained that on election day, their election observation mission will have more than 130 observers on the ground. Among them, there will be a delegation of 7 MEPs. They will also deploy long-term observers, she said.
“There are 32 of them. They will be deployed in all regions. There are 16 teams working in pairs, which will be deployed throughout the country, so that they can see, speak with stakeholders throughout the country. They will be our eyes and ears on the ground. They have just arrived, they will be deployed on Friday,” said Ms. Björk.
