This morning, the Vice President of The Gambia, H.E. Mohammed B.S. Jallow, welcomed the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and his delegation at State House in Banjul. The Nigerian delegation was joined by The Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dr. Mamadou Tangara, along with the Secretary to Cabinet, Mr. Alieu Njie.
Minister Tuggar, addressing the purpose of his visit, highlighted his dual role in the discussions. “I come wearing two caps,” he stated. “As Nigeria is the current chair of ECOWAS heads of State and government, my President serves as the chair, so I am here on behalf of ECOWAS. Additionally, I am here to engage in bilateral discussions with The Gambia.”
Minister Tuggar emphasized the importance of strengthening the regional bond, describing The Gambia as “one of the central pivots in the dynamics of ECOWAS.” He underscored that continued dialogue and cultural exchange are vital to deepening the relationship between member states.
The Vice President, in turn, expressed appreciation for the visit and discussed potential avenues to further enhance bilateral relations. He offered suggestions as ECOWAS prepares to host a future summit, emphasizing The Gambia’s commitment to collaborative efforts within the region.
Minister Tuggar expressed satisfaction with the Vice President’s welcoming response, describing the meeting as both warm and constructive. The discussions mark a promising step forward in the ongoing partnership between The Gambia, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the broader ECOWAS community.
