Muhammed S Bah, former President of the Gambia Press Union and Activist, urges the Gambian Parliament to act diligently on the Draft Constitution, highlighting that the Nation cannot afford to fail in this crucial constitutional-building process.
He stressed that the National Assembly Members should regard themselves as servants of the Gambia.
” This isn’t about personal agendas or partisan games. It’s about fulfilling your duty to the nation. Even if the executive falls short, the National Assembly has the power to step up and correct the wrongs. The Assembly must give Gambians the opportunity to decide through a referendum. This is our chance to strengthen democracy and advance traditional justice”
He calls on Gambians to stay engaged noting that the citizens hold the power as voters.
” If those we’ve elected aren’t doing the right thing, we must decide whether they deserve to stay or go”
Muhammed S Bah said he is it’s shocking to hear some members take extreme positions on the 2024 Draft Constitution, vowing to reject it outright.
“Some have eve,n go,ne the as far as saying, we will bury it 41 feet deep when it arrives,,.”
Mr Bah reminds the lawmakers that it’s their moment to avoid mistakes in the constitutional building process.
