In what could be describe as a very busy day for our Executive Director, earlier on today he also paid a working visit to the Centre of the Rural Support Organization for the Disabled (RSOD) at Basse Manneh Kunda.
“We are here to see how possibly we could support and work together to advance the rights of persons with disabilities especially disabled children and women,” he said.
Mrs. Fatou Manneh, the chair lady of RSOD thanked Mr Jawneh for his visit and continued support to PWDs.
She lamented that the Centre is currently experiencing serious challenges forcing them to closed their school for disabled children.
“We couldn’t afford to continue paying the teacher and as you can see we need serious rehabilitation to make our facilities habitable. Children with disabilities are being denied of their right to education due to lack of support and we disabled women have no support to venture into meaningful economic ventures,” she said.
She appealed on behalf of the association for support to popularize the Persons with Disabilities Act 2021 among PWDs in URR.
Our Executive Director told them that as a human rights NGO, Beakanyang believes in equal opportunities for all irrespective of social status.
“We need to work together to ensure that this Centre resumes operations and we need to help their disabled children return to school,” he said.
