His Excellency Mohammed BS Jallow, the Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, on Friday, 30 May participated in a series of high-level engagements at the International Conference on Glaciersโ Preservation, currently being held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The conference is convened under the theme: โPreserve Glaciers โ Life Source of Our Planetโ, drawing global attention to one of the most pressing climate issues recently.

Vice President Jallow delivered a powerful keynote address on behalf of His Excellency President Adama Barrow and the people of The Gambia. In a separate engagement, Vice President Jallow joined a high-level roundtable discussion with fellow global leaders. The discussion focused on the critical importance of limiting global warming, which remains the only viable path to preserving glaciers and their essential ecosystem services. He also addressed climate financing and adaptation needs, calling for bold, unified global action to support vulnerable nations like The Gambia.

Vice President Jallow also held a productive bilateral meeting with Dr. Musonda Mumba, Secretary General of the Convention on Wetlands. Discussions focused on The Gambiaโs efforts to prevent saltwater intrusion into freshwater systems, and the government’s commitment to protecting vital natural resources that support agriculture, marine life, and broader ecosystems.
