
Anger and outrage gripped Mandinary Friday after Lamin Badjie, a local man, died in hospital shortly after being arrested by police.
Residents took to the streets, burning tyres and blocking roads in protest.
Speaking exclusively to Gambiana, Assistant Police PRO, Inspector Mariama I. Fatty, said: “The police were on routine patrol in Mandinary and surrounding areas when they arrested a suspect. After the arrest, he fell ill and was taken to hospital, where he was confirmed deceased.”
Eyewitnesses described a tense scene as groups of youths stormed the Mandinary Police Station, demanding answers.
Local leaders and community members are calling for an independent investigation into Lamin Badjie’s death.
The tragedy has left Mandinary shaken, with residents vowing to continue protests until they receive clear answers and justice for Lamin Badjie.
