The Department of Physical Planning has issued notice stoping Brikama Area Council from what they called a ”beautification without development permit on the site.”
”You are therefore ordered to cease work fourthwith and report to the Principal Development Control Officer Secretary West Coast Region Planning Authority within 24 hours of the date hereof.”
In a letter to the council, Department of Physical Planning stated that the work council is doing in Brikama is unapproved without specifically mentioning any area of the ongoing work.
The department further stated that the work constitutes a contravention of the provisions of Development Permit issued to you under the Development Regulation 1995.
Civil Press has learnt that currently, Brikama Area Council is constructing a monument just opposite the Church Junction.
Reacting to the letter, the Chairman of the council, Yankuba Darboe has vowed that the council will not stop the work it is currently doing.
”Please note that we will not stop work and will continue work until what consequences destined for us! We are ready to die doing what we have sworn to do to develop our region!
We will stand our ground and there will be no retreat or surrender to President Adama Barrow his abuse of powers against our council!.”
Uncertainty is currently growing in the market as last year, council clashes with the Police Intervention Unit officers during the Tobaski season, leading to excessive throwing of tear gases in and around the market.
