According to the latest report from the Inspector General of Police, Seedy Muktarr Touray, The Gambia has seen a decrease in murders since his appointment, with the number dropping from 29 cases in 2024 to 25 in 2026.
However, the report also highlights a concerning increase in other serious crimes. Cases of reported rape have risen from 46 in 2024 to 54 in 2026, while incidents of arson have surged from 3 to 24. Robberies have also seen a slight increase, with the number rising from 60 to 63 within the same time period.
During the first quarterly media briefing at the Gambia Police Force Headquarters in Banjul, IGP Touray shared these statistics and emphasized the importance of strengthening police patrols to prevent crime. He also highlighted the investment in training and development of officers to ensure a safer community for all.
