The West African Union of Tax Institutes (WAUTI) wrapped up its 12th Annual International Tax Conference in Mbour, Senegal, with a strong call for economic sovereignty and inclusive growth.
Over two days, tax leaders, academics, and policymakers discussed ways to: Strengthen domestic resource mobilization. Harmonize tax policies across ECOWAS while preserving national autonomy. Invest in digital reforms for transparency and efficiency. Tackle illicit financial flows.
Gambia Revenue Authority’s Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe reminded delegates that taxation is not just an obligation but a shared investment in nation-building. WAUTI President Samuel Agbeluyi echoed the need for harmonized fiscal policies to reduce dependency and drive growth.
The clear message from Mbour: Africa’s development must be financed by Africa itself.
