Personnel of the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) have intercepted 31 suspected would-be migrants during a routine patrol in Gunjur.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of Sunday, 29 March 2026 by the Tanji Border Patrol Unit, involved individuals of mixed nationalities, including Gambians, Guineans, Senegalese, and a Sierra Leonean. The group comprised 19 males and 12 females.
Authorities confirmed that the individuals were escorted to the Gunjur Immigration Station and are awaiting transfer to Tanji for further processing and investigation.
A commercial vehicle and a tricycle allegedly used to transport the group to the seaside have been placed under investigative custody.
The GID reiterated its commitment to combating irregular migration and ensuring national security.
