The Jiffarong Youth Development Association (JYDA) will hold its first Annual General Meeting on 13-14 June, convening citizens of the village to discuss the community’s development priorities and other critical issues.
The event will be held under the theme: ‘Jiffarong Njen-julu-kiling’ ‘Unity for Development’.
Organisers say the two-day meeting will create space for “critical, meaningful community dialogue” aimed at uniting the citizens and charting a path for future developments.
Speaking ahead of the event, JYDA Chairperson Baba Njie said the association has existed since the 1980s, originally run by Jiffarong natives based in Kombo. However, this dynamic has changed, giving all the citizens the opportunity to participate in the development aspirations of the village.
“The association was already existing when I was in school. When we came in, the elderly people in the association decided to shift their attention to advisory role instead,” Njie said. He added that the association has been saving funds intended to uplift the living standard of the village.
The AGM, he said, is timely given the village’s development needs. “We deemed it relevant as a people and as an association to come together and see how best we can push forward projects that have already been initiated,” he explained.
Among the priorities are completing the village market, which he said no longer requires major investment, and securing funding for the hospital, forestry initiatives, and roads that become nearly inaccessible during the rainy season. The two madrasas and the English school are also part of the agenda.
Njie called on every Jiffarong native to attend what he described as an unprecedented gathering for the community.
