President Bassirou Diomaye Faye joined worshippers at the Grand Mosque of Dakar on Thursday to mark Tabaski, delivering a message of unity, gratitude, and solidarity.
At the outset, he thanked the Imam Ratib and religious leaders, extending wishes of peace, health, and prosperity to the Muslim community. He also greeted Christian compatriots who had recently celebrated Pentecost, noting that the closeness of religious holidays reflects Senegal’s tradition of mutual respect and unity.
The President emphasized that Tabaski, rooted in the sacrifice of Ibrahim, is a reminder of faith and civic duty — “a lesson in renouncing part of ourselves for something greater.” He acknowledged the challenges many citizens faced in celebrating the holiday, expressing gratitude to those who managed and solidarity with those who could not.
Faye reminded the nation that the essence of Tabaski is sharing, urging religious and traditional leaders to continue praying for Senegal. He also called for prayers for the national football team, the Lions, as they prepare to defend the country’s colors at the 2026 World Cup.
