On Wednesday, May 28, 2026, the Border Patrol Unit of the Gambia Immigration Department, working with the Village Development Committee of Jinack Kajata, recovered three unidentified bodies during a routine night patrol at the Jinack Crossing Point.
Authorities confirmed the victimsโtwo men and one womanโare suspected to have been passengers on a migrant taxi boat that capsized while attempting to join a larger vessel at sea.
The bodies were handed over to the Essau Police Station for investigation. In a statement, the Gambia Immigration Department expressed concern over the continued loss of lives linked to irregular migration and urged communities to support national efforts to protect lives and discourage clandestine travel.
This incident adds to the growing humanitarian toll of unsafe migration routes along the Gambian coast.
