The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), through its Tanji Migration Management and Border Patrol Units, intercepted nineteen (19) potential irregular migrants at Batokunku Village in the West Coast Region (WCR) on Thursday, 20th August 2026.
The intercepted group, who were found sheltering in a residential premises, comprised nineteen (19) Gambians, all adult males.
The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) is aware of and concerned about the practice of landlords and property owners harbouring or accommodating potential irregular migrants in residential premises. Such practices can undermine migration management efforts and pose significant challenges to community security, surveillance, and effective monitoring.
The Department therefore urges members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities involving individuals whose presence or residential status may warrant concern. Combating irregular migration and safeguarding national security require a concerted community effort and the active cooperation of all stakeholders in maintaining a safer and more secure country.
