On Saturday, 25th November 2023, President Barrow continued the Meet the People Tour by laying the foundation stone of an early childhood learning center in his village, Mankamang Kunda. Upon completion, children under five years don’t have to walk a kilometer to attend school at that tender age. The last nursery school at Mankamang was built by Missionaries in the early seventies.
The President also visited the ongoing construction of classrooms for an Upper and Senior Secondary School at Bakadagie.
Current enrollment is a hundred boys and two hundred girls, which is an excellent encouragement towards girls’ education.
President Barrow also visited the Ahmadiya Mission School in Basse, Nasir Ahmadiya, to monitor the progress of work on constructing classrooms, TVET, and Science labs to meet the increasing demand for enrollment at Nasir.
Delighted to visit for the first time, commended the Ahmadiya for creating space and providing a conducive environment for learning. “I assure you of the government’s partnership. It is here that students pay less and get quality education. National Development is for all, and you are contributing to it, giving opportunities for children to be educated,” said President Barrow.
The Ahmadiya Muslim Jamat in The Gambia has also embarked on constructing a hospital at Basse, to which President Barrow laid the foundation stone.
H.E Adama Barrow wrapped up the day’s engagements with a joint meeting at Basse Mansajang Kunda.
In response to concerns over the attitude of some Civil Servants to work, President Barrow said he created a separate Ministry of Public Service to ensure reforms in the Civil Service and to improve performances and work ethic, including punctuality.
H.E Barrow stated, “There are civil servants who, in the guise of political neutrality, undermine the system. Our Reforms will monitor non-performing Civil Servants and weed them out. The new clocking system will address punctuality.” He told the gathering that despite being Head of State, he ensures he goes to work on time.
On the region’s advancement, the President pledged his steadfast determination to bring development to the people. However, he informed the gathering that all road works, especially the feeder roads, cannot be simultaneous in all the communities. He said his government is decentralising infrastructure development throughout the country to ensure inclusive development
