The Sub-Saharan Africa Women Empowerment and Demographic Dividend plus Project (SWEDD+ Project) on Monday held a two day fourth quarterly meeting on Social Safeguard and Environmental Activities in Kartong, Kombo South. The project funded by the World Bank focused on areas of Gender Empowerment, Gender Based Violence and Youth Empowerment in the Gambia. Omar Mbakeh, SWEDD Operation Office from the Project Coordinating Unit Ministry of Health spoke on the impact of the project on vulnerable women and girls in enhancing their socio- economic and cultural well-being across all the regions in the country. The Focal Person SWEDD Project Phebian Ina Grant Sagnia explained that Gender Based Violence, and sexual offences act are still on the rise, lamenting that victims are not reporting cases for fear of consequences. Rohey Njie, Social Safeguard and Environment Focal Person SWEDD reiterated their commitment to promote advocacy to enhance more understanding of the project.
