The Women Journalists Association of The Gambia overjoyed the impeccable decision of Gambian Journalists to elect Isatou Keita, Former Vice President, as President of The Gambia Press Union.

She was elected in a competitive yet free, fair, and transparent during the Union’s annual general meeting and congress held from 13-14 December 2024. Congress also elected two other female members: Meita Touray, a journalism trainer, as elected Treasurer,,r and Mariama Bojan,g as an ordinary member of the Board.
Isatou Keita’s election victory was part of the Women Journalists Association’s campaign to abolish male dominance over women in GPU politics, making Isatou the second-ever female president of GPU since it was established in the 1970s.
We are without a doubt that President-elect Isatou Keita’s administration will promote and strengthen women’s rights in the media, Freedom of Expression, and Free Press and ensure that the Union remains vibrant and prosperous in its endeavors.
