H.E. Mohammed BS Jallow, Vice President of The Gambia, officially launched the inaugural Banjul Cultural Festival on Wednesday, December 25, at the Never Again Memorial Arch in Banjul. This historic event brought together cultural troupes from across Banjul for a vibrant celebration of heritage and unity.
The festival was graced by senior government officials, including ministers, the Mayor, members of the community, dignitaries, elders, and youth of Banjul.
In his remarks, VP Jallow highlighted the festival as a true reflection of Gambian culture with a West African flair, emphasizing the country’s values of tolerance and hospitality.
He noted:”This festival aligns with His Excellency President Adama Barrow’s vision to use culture as a bridge to reconcile and unite Gambian communities, as well as build connections between Gambians and non-Gambians.”
The Vice President also underscored the importance of culture in fostering a strong national identity and boosting the economy through opportunities in tourism and entertainment, as outlined in the YIRIWA Development Project 2023–2027.
The Banjul Cultural Festival is a celebration of unity, diversity, and progress. Let’s continue to support and preserve our rich heritage!
