A suspect has been
remanded at Mile 2 Prison for allegedly smuggling drugs into the facility. The individual, identified as Amadou Tijan Sowe from Abuko, was arrested recently while attempting to deliver provisions to a remand prisoner. Prison officers discovered twenty-two wraps of a prohibited substance, known as “coos,” hidden inside packets of noodles during routine screening.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody and handed over to The Gambia’s Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) for further investigation and potential prosecution under the country’s drug control laws. In a joint effort with DLEAG, prison authorities have pledged to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety of correctional facilities. They have also issued a warning that any attempts to smuggle contraband into the prison will result in severe legal consequences.
