Consistent with his plan of transforming The Gambia into a middle-income nation by 2030, His Excellency President Adama Barrow launched a nationwide 1,500km roads project. He laid the foundational stones for the first phase of 85.3 KM in 4 communities of the Upper River Region – South (URR- South).
President Barrow noted that the roads component of the National Development Plan – “*Yiriwa*” is designed to improve connectivity between communities and markets, giving farmers better access to sell their produce. It will make it easier for people to reach hospitals and essential services. The initiative reflects the government’s vision of inclusive development where no one is left behind.
The groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday covers several key routes:
➡️ 11.2 km: Mankamang – Julangel – Sare Wollom – Bana Tenda Road.
➡️ 24 km: Suduwol – Missiraba Mariama – Nyamanari Road
➡️ 26.9 km: Tinkinjo – Sanunding – Dingiri– Madina Samako – Diabugu Ba Sillah Road.
➡️ 23.2 km: Giroba – Sabusireh – Touba Tafsir – Darsilame – Allunhari Abdou – Banico Keh Kor – Kumbija – Samba Tako – Kaba Kama Road.
President Barrow also inspected ongoing works in URR, including the Basse Mosque Road to the Governor’s Office and Residence, and the Kaba Kama to MRC – Dampha Kunda Road.
Together, these projects advance the country’s modernisation and infrastructure drive.
Community members described the project as a long-awaited dream finally becoming reality. Speakers at the meeting held in Tinkinjo, Tumana District, commended President Barrow’s leadership, saying the developments bring dignity and opportunity to rural communities.
The achievement reaffirms the Barrow Administration’s commitment to moving The Gambia beyond the setbacks of past regimes and delivering development closer to the people.
The President will unveil more road projects in URR North and Central River Regions within the next five days.
