Former Gambian champions Hawks FC were on Sunday 7th July 2024, crowned Champions of the GFF Second Division League 2023/24 men’s competition as the Reds made a return to the top tier following their relegation last season.
Hawks FC wrapped up a memorable campaign with a nail-biting 1-1 draw against Immigration FC at the Bakau Mini Stadium on a well-attended final match day.
The colourful ceremony presided over by GFF President Mr Lamin Kaba Bajo was also attended by 1st Vice President Bakary K Jammeh, 4th Vice President Ms Sainabou Cham, Technical Director Mr Sang John Ndong, President of Hawks FC Hon. James Gomez, Executive member Modou Musa Njai and a cross-section of local dignitaries and fans.
As champions, Hawks FC went home with D500,000.00 (five hundred thousand dalasis), gold medals and a giant trophy. Hart FC as runners-up received a cheque of D250,000.00 (two hundred and fifty thousand dalasis) while second Runners-up Gambian Dutch Lions FC earned D125,000.00 (one hundred and twenty-five thousand dalasis).
In other results, Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) FC beat already relegated Jarra West 1-7 in Soma to take the final playoff spot as Gunjur United and BK Milan cancelled out each other in a goalless draw at the LOSFF in Old Yundum. Meanwhile, FF Cup finalists Medina United ended their season on a high with a narrow 1-0 defeat of Serekunda FC.
