
General Birame Diop (Rtd), the Senegalese Minister of Defence, who was in The Gambia for a two-day official working visit from Thursday, April 17 to Friday, April 18, 2025, has concluded his visit with a series of official engagements.
On the margins of his visit, the Honorable Minister had meetings with the Defence authorities of The Gambia. Minister Diop with his Gambian counterpart, Brigadier General Sering Modou Njie (Rtd) and other Defence and Security authorities of The Gambia held a close door meeting with the members of the Gambia National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence and Security, chaired by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Honorable Seedy SK Njie who doubles as the Chairperson of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence and Security.
On the same margins, the Senegalese Minister, accompanied by his counterpart, Brigadier General Sering Modou Njie (Rtd) and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Madam Rohey Bittaye Darboe, the Chief of Defence Staff Gambia Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mamat OA Cham and the National Security Adviser to the President, Abubakar Sulayman Jeng, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency, the president and Commander-in-Chief of the Gambia Armed Forces, Mr Adama Barrow at State House.
With the culmination of his official working visit, the Senegalese Honorable Minister also visited the ECOMIG Force Headquarters in Fajara where he held discussions with the various sector commanders, and also visited Senbat at Kanilai in Foni Kansala, West Coast Region.
The distinguished and honoured guest, the Honourable Minister of Defence of Senegal, General Birame Diop (Rtd), was seen on departure at the Banjul International Airport by his Gambian counterpart, Brigadier General Sering Modou Njie (Rtd), the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Momodou Tangara and Commander Gambia National Guards, Brigadier General Yaya Drammeh on Friday, April 18, 2025 at about 1700hrs.
