On Friday 22 May 2026, The Gambia Immigration Department, through its Border Patrol Unit (BPU) stationed at Tanji Migration Management Unit (MMU), had successfully launched series of operations that led to the interception of seventy-two (73) would-be migrants across the coastal communities of Lamin, Faraba, Gunjur, and Tanji.
The intercepted group included twenty-six (26) Gambians, thirty-four (34) Senegalese, six (6) Sierra Leoneans, five (5) Guineans, one (1) Malian and an ivorian national.
The interception aligns with the GID’s commitment to deterring youths from venturing into the risky irregular migration route while promoting safer and regular migration passages.
