His Excellency President Adama Barrow held two joint meetings in Badibu Salikenni and Farafeni, North Bank Region (NBR) where he pledged to increase electricity access and quality roads by 2026.
NBR has been plagued by poor infrastructure for more than six decades, making it difficult for them to access basic necessities like healthcare, schools and markets for their agricultural produce.
Out of 158 communities in Lower Nuimi, Upper Nuimi and Jokadu districts, only 9 communities had electricity between 1965-2016. Since coming to power in 2017 till date, the Barrow administration has connected 106 communities to the national electricity network.
Out of 60 communities of Lower and Central Badibu, 35 are already benefiting from the ongoing electrification initiatives of the current government, compared to 6 communities from independence to 2016.
In Sabach Sanjal and Illiasa, 50 communities have accessed electricity under President Barrow, compared to only 1 by his predecessors.
The Bangaly NAWEC Substation in the NBR connects approximately 233 communities to consistent electricity supply for both residential and industrial activities.
Barra, a commercial centre and Amdalai, a border town, have benefitted from more reliable electricity, providing greater opportunities for trade and investments.
President Barrow assured them more sustainable development in their region.
