The People’s Movement for National Unity has distanced itself from Turo Darboe’s Talinding political remarks, where he announced his intention to join politics in April ahead of the 2026 Presidential Election.
“The PMNU wishes to state for the record that the announcement does not reflect the agenda, mission, or official position of the People’s Movement for National Unity. The remarks were personal in nature and do not represent the agenda of the Movement,” the organization clarified on Friday, citing its mission of serving as a unifier of Gambians under one umbrella and one slogan, “One Gambia, One Nation, One People.”
Modou Turo Darboe, widely known as a philanthropist, had during the weekend said at a naming ceremony in Talinding that he is bracing up for the 2026 Presidential Election, with an official announcement to be made in the month of April 2026, ahead of the election.
According to the organization, the decision to publicly issue clarifications came after its Board of Directors and leadership held a productive meeting.
The movement said Darboe’s announcement was a personal statement as the institution is not an individual organization.
