Two Gambian musicians, rapper Eljay and UK-based artist Ebrima Sey, have reacted publicly on social media following reports of arrests in Senegal involving a group accused of same-sex acts and related offences.
The Senegal case, widely reported by local media, includes the detention of television presenter Pape Cheikh Diallo and musician Djiby Dramé, alongside 10 other individuals.
In a post shared online, Ebrima Sey described the arrests as a moment of exposure, writing: “The masks are finally coming off in Senegal. Let’s hope The Gambia is next… Our industry is full of Djibi Drames and Papes(homosexuals).”
Eljay also weighed in, suggesting he is aware of similar rumours within the Gambian entertainment space. “I know some,” he wrote, adding in a separate comment that the Senegal arrests were unexpected and should serve as a warning to others engaged in similar acts in The Gambia.
Responding to Eljay’s remarks, Ebrima Sey further claimed that such issues extend beyond musicians, alleging that “presenters, artists, producers” are involved across the industry.
The comments have drawn attention online, reflecting how high-profile arrests in neighbouring Senegal have sparked wider debate and speculation across the region’s entertainment circles.
