The Gambia Police Force is investigating a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on Monday, February 16, 2026, at about 06:00hrs along the Jabang–Jambanjelly Highway, between the Hand on Academy School Junction and the Oryx Petrol Station.
The collision involved a commercial seven-seater vehicle bearing registration number KM 7688 E, driven by Mam Ali Willan, a 39-year-old resident of Nema Alikali, and a private vehicle bearing registration number BJL 2438 Z, driven by Sait Jobe, a 45-year-old resident of Jabang.
Preliminary findings indicate that the private vehicle was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it collided with the oncoming commercial vehicle.
Emergency services responded promptly, and the victims were rushed to Kanifing General Hospital. Sadly, the driver of the commercial vehicle and a passenger, Mammy Trawally, 45, of Latriya, were pronounced dead. Other passengers are currently receiving medical treatment.
Police officers visited the scene, documented evidence, and opened a case file as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
