The Gambia Police Force has taken note of public concerns circulating on social media regarding alleged fraudulent vehicle sale activities reportedly involving persons operating outside The Gambia.
The GPF wishes to reassure the public that all reports of fraud, including cross-border scams and cyber-enabled criminal activities, are taken seriously and investigated in accordance with established legal and procedural frameworks.
Members of the public who believe they have been victims of fraud or related offences are strongly advised to formally report such matters at the nearest police station. Once a complaint is properly lodged, the matter is assessed and processed under the appropriate criminal provisions. Where cross-border elements are involved, the National Central Bureau (NCB) INTERPOL in The Gambia works within international cooperation mechanisms to facilitate information sharing and lawful investigative support.
The GPF also wishes to clarify that there is a legal distinction between criminal offences and civil disputes. Criminal matters involve offences against the state and are investigated by the Police for prosecution. Civil matters, such as contractual disagreements or commercial disputes, are subject to separate legal procedures before the courts. Members of the public are therefore encouraged to seek proper legal guidance where necessary.
Where a matter has been reported and there are concerns regarding follow-up or response, citizens may escalate the issue through supervisory channels within the respective station or region for review.
The Gambia Police Force further encourages responsible journalism and fact-based reporting. Investigative journalism plays a critical role in public accountability; however, it is important that verified facts are presented rather than general assertions that reported cases are not handled. The Police remain committed to investigating all properly reported criminal matters in accordance with the law.
The GPF urges the public to exercise caution when engaging in overseas vehicle purchases or financial transactions, particularly where payment is requested without verifiable documentation or secure contractual safeguards.
Members of the public may report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or call 9968885.
The Gambia Police Force remains committed to protecting lives, property, and financial security through professional and lawful policing.
