Neneh Freda Gomez has responded to accusations branding her as anti-UDP during an interview on Eye Africa TV.
Speaking in an interview led by journalist Muhammad Garmi Mbaye, Gomez extended Ramadan greetings to Gambians, both Muslims and non-Muslims, before addressing the allegations.
Gomez clarified that her legal dispute was never about fighting for a parcel of land, but rather about upholding the rule of law. According to her, the matter was taken through the proper legal channels, progressing from the Magistrate’s Court to the High Court.
She stated that the courts ruled in her favour multiple times.
“We received five, six, seven judgments in our favour — from the Magistrate Court all the way to the High Court. Different judges handled the case, and each time the court ruled that we were on the right side,” she said.
Gomez emphasised that the court decisions resolved the land matter and maintained that her stance was motivated by her opposition to injustice.
“Those who know me understand that I do not stand for injustice. What I was fighting for was the sanctity of the rule of law,” she added.
The interview comes amid claims from critics alleging she is taking an anti-UDP stance, accusations she strongly denies.
