Tensions flared at the University of The Gambia (UTG) during a heated student congress over the reading of the Students’ Union financial report, leaving one student injured and prompting swift intervention by officers of the Police Intervention Unit (PIU).
The incident, which disrupted proceedings, saw police step in to restore order and caution students against provocations. Officers emphasized that UTG Students’ Union President Ismaila Fadera “should serve all of you,” urging unity and restraint among the student body.
Following the chaos, Fadera was questioned by police regarding allegations linked to the disturbance. Authorities clarified that he was not arrested and had been cleared of involvement in any fight. Police stressed that those invited were only interviewed as a preventive measure to avoid further escalation.
