His Excellency President Adama Barrow today received Admiral Oumar Wade, the newly appointed Chief of Defense Staff of the Republic of Senegal, at the State House in Banjul.
This visit, Admiral Wade’s first official external trip since assuming office, was aimed at further strengthening the longstanding brotherly relations between The Gambia and Senegal in pursuit of international cooperation.
President Barrow expressed appreciation to Admiral Wade for choosing The Gambia as his first external destination, describing it as a testament to the strong ties between the two nations. He emphasised that dialogue and regular consultations are vital to deepening the partnership, given the close historical and cultural bonds shared.
The President urged both sides to nurture peaceful neighbourliness, commended progress made on border issues, and called for continued commitment, dedication, and openness.
In his remarks, Admiral Wade expressed gratitude for the warm reception accorded to him and reaffirmed his commitment to uphold peace, stability, and cooperation between the two countries.
President Barrow extended his felicitations to President Diomaye Diakhar Faye, recalling his pledge to sustain good neighbourliness with The Gambia. He also wished Admiral Wade success in his new role, encouraging him to work diligently to leave a positive legacy.
