According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and killed over 7,000 people left no Gambians behind.Despite the troubling earthquake in Turkey, the Foreign Ministry guarantees that no Gambians are to blame

The following is the text of the Ministry’s release:

Bangladesh agrees to co-deploy troops with Gambia

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad informs the general public that as of today, February 8, 2023, no Gambian national is killed or injured in response to the recent earthquake in southern Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, and Egypt.

Our Embassy in Ankara has access to information indicating that all three (3) Gambians in the earthquake zone are safe and have been located. The Ministry has not received any information regarding Gambians from Syria, Lebanon, or any other nation.

On behalf of The Gambia’s Government and People, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveys its deepest condolences to the families of those who have passed away and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
