On Saturday, BEAKANYANG in partnership with Youth for Human Rights International The Gambia Chapter launched its Universal Declaration of Human Rights 75th Anniversary Commemoration at Serrekunda market.
BEAKANYANG Executive Director, Mr. Nfamara Jawneh, said the year-long commemoration is aimed at raising awareness and increasing people’s understanding of the universality and indivisibility of human rights and empowering people to fight for their rights.
According to him, Beakanyang is working with different partners on various activities to commemorate UDHR@75.
He lamented despite UDHR has been adopted some seven decades ago many people in the country didn’t know much about it.
Rights activist disclosed that his organization will continue to educate Gambians about their especially young people and urged people to stand up for their rights at all times.
“We are happy to partner with Beakanyang to launch this important campaign, we have just distributed 200 human rights booklets about UDHR and also collected many signatures urging the government to implement UDHR,” says Mr.Kabir Nyass, chairman of Youths for Human Rights, Gambia chapter.
