Forty-one migrants, including two women, were rescued at sea near the Italian island of Lampedusa by the Guardia di Finanza.
The migrants were traveling aboard an 11-meter vessel that was intercepted and escorted to shore by the patrol boat PV7 Paolini. According to the group, which included nationals of Egypt, Eritrea, Pakistan, and Sudan, they departed from Libya late yesterday morning with the intention of reaching France and Sweden.
Following their arrival, all 41 migrants were transferred to the Imbriacola hotspot reception center on Lampedusa. Authorities reported that the facility is currently hosting 171 people.
