His Excellency Mohammed BS Jallow, Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, today presided over the official opening of the Permanent Secretaries Retreat held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo.
The retreat brings together top-level civil service leadership to reflect, strategize, and enhance coordination across ministries β a crucial step in ensuring effective implementation of policies, transparency, and public service delivery.
In his keynote address, Vice President Jallow emphasized the critical role of Permanent Secretaries as Principal Accounting Officers of their respective ministries. He underscored the importance of transforming policy into tangible action, noting that the retreat serves as more than just a technical exercise but it is a vital accountability platform that directly feeds into Cabinet oversight and performance tracking across the entire government.
βAs the principal Accounting Officers of your respective Ministries, you are responsible for ensuring that these deliverables move from policy to action,β VP Jallow posited.
He further noted that the retreat offers an opportunity to reaffirm a collective commitment to civil service excellence, improve alignment with Cabinet priorities, and reinforce the institutional framework driving The Gambiaβs national development agenda.
βIt is a chance to reaffirm our shared commitment to civil service excellence, to align with Cabinet priorities, and to strengthen the institutional backbone of national development,β he added.
This high-level engagement reflects the governmentβs dedication to fostering a results-driven, accountable, and responsive public sector β one that works in sync with the vision of national progress and transformation.
